Print Process
Linocut Printing
Aka Relief Printing
Linocut is a powerful form of relief printmaking that involves carving
an image into a linoleum block, inking the raised surfaces, and transferring the design onto paper or fabric. This technique is known for its bold, graphic style, featuring strong contrasts and striking lines. The origins of linocut date back to the early 20th century, when artists sought a more affordable and accessible alternative to woodcut printing. It gained popularity during the German Expressionist movement, with artists like Ernst Ludwig Kirchner using the medium to create bold, emotional imagery. Its simplicity and versatility quickly made it a favourite among artists worldwide, and it remains celebrated for its striking, unique prints.

Carve & Ink
At the Blue Stamp, every product is 100% handmade and an original
linocut print. Each piece starts with a design that’s carefully hand-carved into a linoleum block, allowing the unique texture and detail of the artwork to come through. After carving, the block is hand-inked and printed using a specialty printing press, ensuring that every print is a one-of-a-kind creation.
We take pride in the personal touch and craftsmanship that goes into every piece, making each print special and unique.
